About Hornbill

Our Story

Hornbill Safari Camp is one of the few privately owned camps within Kafue National Park — and uniquely, it has its own 2,000-hectare concession directly attached to camp. This gives guests the rare experience of staying in a private slice of wilderness while still being part of the park itself.
Behind the camp is an owner deeply committed to Zambia’s wildlife and wild spaces. Passionate about conservation, he has built Hornbill not just as a resting place for travellers, but as a project that supports the wider protection of the park. Though small in size compared to many of Zambia’s conservation areas, Hornbill is already making an impact — through membership in conservation organisations and ongoing involvement in broader wildlife protection efforts. Progress is never fast, but always worth the effort.

Why Here?

Hornbill sits in southern Kafue, where the Nanzhila River winds through old trees and the open plains begin. This corner of the park is quieter than the busier northern routes — a place where birdlife thrives and wildlife still moves freely. For travellers, Hornbill is also perfectly placed: the natural pause point on the long journey between Livingstone and the northern Kafue camps. It’s where you can stop, rest, and experience a wilder side of the park before carrying on.

Our Promise

Hornbill has a spotlight on it — being the park’s only privately owned camp means we’re expected to set an example. That suits us fine. Our promise is simple: we’ll look after you, and we’ll look after the bush. From safe, comfortable nights under the trees to a deep respect for the wildlife that moves through them, we aim to do things the right way — for our guests and for Kafue.

The People

Hornbill is owner-run, with a small team who know the bush, the camp, and how to make guests feel at home. We’re not a big corporate lodge — we’re just people who care deeply about this place, the wildlife, and the travellers who choose to share it with us.
